Every college has their own system for homework and grading. When I was at University of Cincinnati and Ohio University-Chillicothe, we used Blackboard, but here at ONU we use Moodle. Personally I have found Blackboard easier to navigate, but it is not as technologically advanced as Moodle. One aspect I really like about Moodle is how they have made it into a social app as well as an educational tool.
Here at ONU, we have an app for ONU students and facility. This app is connected to Moodle and not only does it have the education aspect, but also a social side. In the ONU app, you are connected with every student enrolled at the university. All students enrolled and have the app can post to the student wall or direct message each other. There are always funny posts about things happening around campus and its most popular for freshman students to communicate throughout the freshman dorms.
When it comes to Moodle, the app links to your classes through Moodle, so the app directly notifies you when your professor posts announcements for the class. You can also see a map of where your classes are located and see assignments posted in your classes. The app is a fast and efficient way to navigate through your class schedules.
I think it's a great idea to create a social aspect to your education app because it gets your students more involved and could potentially help them stay more up-to-date with their classes. I don't know if other universities that use Moodle have an app, but I commend ONU for using it.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteMoodle is also very new to me. When I attended Marion Technical College we used Canvas. I do like that it makes a community and is not just your grades.
Thanks for sharing,
