This week I read chapters 8 and 9 of "Social Media for Strategic Communication." My favorite out of the two is Chapter 9.
Chapter 9 talked about creating, managing, and curating content. Something you never would have imagined to be part of a job description is creating content for social media. I always thought social media would be all organic and you would never need someone to create the content you posted, but boy was I wrong. This is a very important part of social media now and there is so much that goes into it.
But not only do you create content for social media, you have the create content for the marketing of a product. The process is similar because you want to market your social media too, but most of the time personal pages won't pay for people to help create their content. Chapter 9 stresses the importance of having good quality content and how to create the content.
This chapter ties into the content the speaker we had in class on Tuesday spoke about. Allie Gellner came into my Principles of Social Media class on Tuesday and talked a little bit about what she does. Allie works at Futurety and helps people with their social medias. Allie talked about the importance of the content posted on pages, and the data she uses to collect the information on what is best to post. Her presentation was actually very helpful, and I learned a lot about what goes on behind the scenes in social media.
This chapter made me think deeper into what content I will post from here on out, and really opened my eyes to what goes into creating the content.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteAllie helped a lot by showing both sides of the organic social media and the paid social media. I didn't realize that there was a difference but I it makes sense to me that organic only reaches so far. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on chapter 9!

Alyson
