So, let me tell you about one of the best and most exciting weekends I've ever had. It was this past May when my cousin, Blake, and I formed a duo singing group and decided to start booking shows and we also decided to think even bigger. June 22, 2019 Blake and I traveled to Chicago to audition for The Voice. Both of us have auditioned for The Voice and American Idol before but we decided this time to audition together instead of separately, and needless to say, it was a pretty successful trip.
What a lot of people don't know is there are three or four rounds with one producer before you can audition for the celebrity judges. These pre rounds are really hard to get through because they see so many people, you really have to do something extravagant to strike the producer's interest. Lucky for us, our duo did what it was supposed to and we were asked to sing again then we were put through to the next round.
Blake's sister auditioned for The Voice a while back and got a call back, but when she had to go back it was the following weekend, so Blake and I planned on driving to Chicago and driving home all in the same day because either way we didn't think we would need to stay in the windy city. To our surprise the call back was the NEXT DAY. We were so excited but quickly realized we were stranded for the night. So, while we were at dinner, we frantically began looking for hotels and stores to buy clothes for the next audition. We finally found a hotel and after long hours of walking around we found outfits to coordinate.
We didn't end up making it past the second round as a duo, but the producer emailed us on our way home asking if we would send individual videos of us singing so he can consider putting one or both of us through individually. We still haven't heard back so who knows, we could still be in the running.
The weekend in Chicago will always be my favorite last minute and unexpected trip. I will hold the memories we made close to my heart forever. Sometimes chasing your dreams turns out better than expected. Because of this trip to audition for The Voice, Blake and I will be traveling to New York this November to audition for America's Got Talent. Hopefully I'll be asking for your votes to get through to the next round this spring.
McKenna, That's awesome that you got to have that experience! Now you get to use that instead of some other lame fun fact that we always have to do at the beginning of a new semester, or whenever a "get to know you" is happening. Hopefully you and Blake have better luck within the next year and are continuously practicing your set!
ReplyDeleteOh My God, McKenna! That's big!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you and I'll pray that you and Blake both get the chance to get on that stage once again because I can tell you guys have made an impression on the producer already. Good luck!
