Let me tell you about the best application invention yet; Venmo. Venmo is an app you connect your bank account or your credit/debit card to and you can transfer money to and from your account by sending people money or receiving money from people. This app has been the biggest life saver in college.
My first week of college I was buying a textbook from an upperclassman and the first thing she asked me was, "do you have Venmo?" I was so confused and just said no. The next day it felt like, I was getting food with a friend and she said, "you can just Venmo me." This is when I decided it was basically a necessity on a college campus. Now i don't go at least a week without using this app.
I've noticed it not only reaching younger crowds, but older too. A lot of parents use Venmo to send their kids money while they're here at school. My mom actually Venmoed me one dollar the only day to tell me she has it now. (I wish it was a larger amount but hey, I'm still one dollar richer.) I have even seen landlords use Venmo to get their monthly rent from students on campus. Shoot, I wouldn't be surprised if my grandma decided to start using it soon.
I think the craziest part of this app is how it is just a basic app for your phone but deals with something so important; money. Who knew one day we could just send money through an app and it show up in our bank account right away for a small charge, or the next day for free? Not to mention, who knew it could be trusted. All I know is I wouldn't survive college as easy without it and it is always the first app I recommend to freshman when they come to college.

McKenna,
ReplyDeleteThis is SUCH an interesting topic, especially here at ONU I've noticed the influence that Venmo has on students as well as organizations on campus. You basically can't host an event that charges admission unless you have a Venmo for people to pay. While my parents haven't joined into the craze yet, I wouldn't be surprised if they do sometime in the near future.
I totally agree with you! I was so clueless when it came to venmo. I had no idea what it was. Know I used it to split pizza with my roommates, split utilities, and buy my roommate's sticker designs! It is such a useful app. Props to whoever came up with it!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard people were talking about this app in ONU but I like your description of Venmo. We also have something like that in Russia and everyone uses it several times per day. We use this app even in markets or in stores when their computers do not work. So, I am just glad that we live in a time when everything is so convenient.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I use Venmo at least once or twice a week to send money to my roommates. It especially comes in handy when you are out and have forgotten your wallet because you can ask you friend to pay for you and just Venmo them the exact amount right after they are done paying.
